Here’s a must-needed Wednesday pick-me-up involving a high school senior and an 81-year-old stranger.
According to Love What Matters, high school senior Senquavious Driver was in the car with his aunt when he spotted an elderly woman struggling to make it to the sidewalk.
“We were about to pull off and leave [the Dollar General] when she was trying to get out of her car, but she was struggling to get on the sidewalk,” recalled Driver’s aunt, Connie Belle Jenkins Sweet. “She barely could walk.”
So Driver took it upon himself to help the elderly woman out of her car and into the store. But this young man’s kindness and concern didn’t end there; he proceeded to shop with her, all the while periodically asking if she was okay.
“I was in tears taking pictures because he didn’t hesitate to help her, and that made my heart happy,” Sweet said. “I’m so proud of him because I know and love the lady that raised him, my sissy.”
This single act of kindness was originally picked up by FOX 5 Atlanta, and subsequently posted to the Facebook page Love What Matters, which shares photo and video submissions that inspire love and hope. Currently, Driver’s story has over 62k likes, 8k shares, and 2k comments since it was posted Monday night.
With all the discouraging news stories that seem to comment on the bleak condition of human relationships, it’s pretty refreshing to read a story like this. It just feels good to know there are people out there with compassion for others, and who are willing to act on it.
If you were touched by this story, I encourage you to take a page from Driver’s book and pay it forward. As this post proves, even the tiniest act of kindness can truly go a long way.
