I’m pretty sure by now everyone’s caught a glimpse of the beautiful work of Anne Geddes. The world-renowned photographer has perfected the art of infant photography for over 30 years, and has paved the way for so many others who’ve followed in her path.
Geddes first began her career in 1981, by making holiday cards for friends and selling calendars out of the back of her car. But it wasn’t long before her heart-tugging images of sleeping babies — often swaddled in flowers or dressed as fairies — became known around the globe.
To date, her books have been published in over 80 countries and translated into 25 different languages, and her calendars alone have sold millions of copies. Through her charity, the Geddes Philanthropic Trust, she’s even been able to help children all over the world — most recently, with a photo series aimed at raising awareness about the threat of meningococcal disease.
And now, just in time for Mother’s Day, Geddes is back with a brand new book, titled Anne Geddes: Small World — and it’s packed with some of her most iconic maternity and newborn photos from the last 30 years.

Clearly, Geddes knows what she’s doing here — and is well-versed in the language of babies. Over three decades of experience has taught her the perfect time to get the perfect shot of every perfect little baby.
In fact, most of the work she does in her studio happens the day before, so everything is set up once the family arrives for a morning photoshoot. Then, Geddes wraps each newborn in a blanket before having Mom or Dad feed them until they fall asleep. After that, Geddes gets to work — fast. Believe it or not, most of her shots only take 10 minutes or so.
