Most kids are not too keen on sharing their toys even when “asked” by their parents. But not 7-year-old Brady Duke.
After his __parents informed him that a local police department lost an officer in the line of duty, Duke wanted to comfort the department the only way he knew how — offering up one of his favorite toys.
Duke sent the Wausau Police Department his Wii gaming system last week, in the hopes that it would make them feel better. It was accompanied by a sweet letter, reading:
“Thank you for serving our community. You keep my family and I safe. I am so sorry that one of your police brothers died. How can I help?”
We’ve all heard the saying, “sharing is caring,” but Duke took this to the next level, and it certainly made an impact not only on the police officers, but also on the Wausau community.
The fire department shared the letter in a Facebook post that has gone viral with over 1.3K likes. They write, “Brady’s example is one we can all follow. Thank you Brady for your love and compassion, and thank you for setting the example for others in our community at the young age of 7.”
The officers then invited Duke to the police station to play a few games with his real-life heroes, much to Duke’s excitement.
“He couldn’t sleep the day beforehand because he was so excited!” Duke’s mom Jessica Duke tells Babble.
And while Duke was perfectly content indulging in some of his other favorite activities, including football, cooking, and reading, the officers also gifted Duke with his own Xbox 360 so he could continue gaming.
While Duke clearly touched the hearts of police officers, there is no one prouder than his mom.
“It warms my heart. Makes me feel like I’m not completely losing at this whole parenting thing,” Jessica Duke tells Babble. “Although I think he teaches me way more then I teach him. I think he was just born with a heart two sizes bigger than most people.”
From the looks of it, you seem to be doing a pretty good job.
