Often times, with all the must-have new toys and mile-long wish lists, the “season of giving” can feel a lot more like the “season of getting” to kids.
Which is why Babble teamed up with Toys“R”Us to show children that the holidays are about so much more than receiving presents — they’re about giving back and helping those less fortunate, too.
So to prove that giving is just as awesome as getting, we sent four kids to the Los Feliz Toys“R”Us in Los Angeles, California to pick out as many toys as their little hearts desired. The only catch? Each and every toy the kids added to their cart was to be donated to children in need through their annual Toys for Tots campaign.
Once the kids were done picking out the presents at Toys“R”Us, they headed over to Blecksmith Hall, a Marine Reserve Training Center, to drop off the gifts. Later this month, the Marines will distribute the gifts to kids in their community.
And in case you thought they were disappointed that their shopping spree wasn’t for gifts for themselves, we’re proud to say that they couldn’t have been more excited by their assignment.
“I feel really happy that I get the opportunity to give to somebody else,” says one little girl. “And I think they’re going to really like the presents.”
Toys for Tots is the U.S. Marine Corps’ premier community action program. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has been a long-time partner with Toys“R”Us and together, they bring joy to less fortunate children across the country each holiday season. Since 2004, Toys“R”Us, through support from their generous customers, has raised more than $50 million and collected 4 million toys — and Babble could not be more excited to help them continue the tradition.
