Bill Nye Uses Emojis to Explain Evolution

Raise your hand if when you read the title of this post you could not stop yourself from singing, “Bill Nye, the Science Guy!” The lovable scientist was a fixture in science classrooms around the country in the ’90s, with his half-hour episodes of educational goodness providing teachers a fun way to cover the (let’s face it) pretty stale topic of natural science.

He was the “Weird Al” Yankovich of PBS — teaching concepts like gravity, digestion, and electricity through musical parodies of the latest hits. (Think “Let’s Talk About Stress” to the tune of Salt-n-Pepa’s “Let’s Talk About Sex,” and you get the gist.)

Is it all coming back to you now? Well, don’t panic. There’s no pop quiz at the end of this. But Bill is at it again — this time explaining the concept of evolution in less than two minutes. But instead of doing it to a song, he’s doing it with emojis, the language of choice for most preteens and teens. It’s all kinds of amazing, and just the throwback you need to liven up your Tuesday. So watch the video above and have a chuckle at how much has changed since we were kids … and how much has stayed the same.
